NOMOPHOBIA

The present generation’s greatest fear or phobia is being without a mobile phone! ‘Nomophobia’ is the short form of ‘no mobile phobia.’ A ‘nomophobe’ spends sleepless nights worrying about the following things that the phone battery will die soon, that he’ll somehow lose his cell phone, that any moment now, he will be out of cell phone range, etc. The term ‘nomophobia’ was coined in the UK.

POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS....

I have all the abilities I need to succeed. I love challenges and learn from every situation in my life. I live everyday with power and passion. I feel strong, excited, passionate, and powerful. I feel tremendous confidence that I can do anything. All of my relationships are based on integrity and respect.
I wake each day feeling healthy and alive with energy. I feel more energized throughout the day. I am bursting with energy, health, and vitality. Every pressure and tension I feel is simply a signal to relax, release and let go.

I am diligent, faithful, and have a spirit of excellence. Whatever I put my hand to will prosper. I am the head and not the tail. I am unique. I can be intimate with myself and others. I can love myself and I can love others. I choose to love everyone with whom I come in contact. Love is patient; therefore, I am patient. Love is kind; therefore, I am kind. Love does not envy; therefore, I am content. Love not rude; therefore I am courteous. Love is provoked; therefore I am forgiving. Love thinks no evil. My thoughts are true, honest, just, pure, loving, and of good report.

DECISION MAKING...

It is a shame, that so many of us have so little trust in our ability to make the decision that is best for us. Making a big decision is a validation of our free will and the fact that we have a say in our own destiny. When you actually think about it, we make decisions every day, all day long. Many decision or choices are so small and routine that we don't even give them a second thought. However, when it comes to a bigger or more substantial decision, the stakes are a little higher, and we may not proceed with the same assurance, which is why it is important to learn how to be a confident decision-maker.
Truthfully, a good decision is based on a good evaluation of the decision at hand. It should not be taken lightly or quickly, but rather thought about and considered methodically and seriously. One very helpful and practical decision-making practice I often use is a pros and cons list. Apparently, even Benjamin Franklin used this approach, which makes me feel even better about it, considering the types of decisions he made as one of the founding fathers of the United States. For his method, he divided a piece of paper down the middle and wrote the pros on one side and the cons on the other. He took his time developing his list as thoughts came to him, often over several days. When he felt confident that he had covered the points, he would weigh the options against one another in order to make his decision. Mr Franklin said that he “found great advantage from this kind of equation.” Now I think that is a pretty good recommendation and certainly makes the process worth the try.                                                              - Bethea

JUST TO LAUGH...

Judge: I remember having seen you in this very court for the last twenty five years.
The Accused: It is because you’ve not been given any promotion during the last twenty five years.

My friend’s father was very proud of his family of six children. He frequently referred to his wife as “Mother of Six.” At the end of a party he called out loud enough for everyone to hear, “Ready to go, Mother of Six?” Eager to teach him a lesson, she replied, “Anytime you are, father of four.”

HOW TO DEAL WITH ODDNESS?

1. Accept yourself: Have conviction and faith in your actions.
2. Weigh pros and cons: Don’t be impulsive. Your actions may be different but not necessarily wrong. Chalk out a mental plan to attain your goals.
3. Matter of choice: All of us have made good and bad choices in life. It is a learning process.
4. Be happy: It is good to make others happy, but for that, you have to be happy first.
5. Face the consequences: Your choices will have an impact, so prepare yourself for it.
6. Don’t let others judge you: When others talk about you and make comparisons, smile and ignore. Each person is unique.
7. Handle criticism tactfully: If you are different, people will look at you with apprehensions. Criticism will anyway come your way, so handle it with tact.
8. Create a support system: There will always be someone who understands you .Nurture such relationships.
9.  Be guilt-free: Don’t isolate yourself from your surrounding

10. Focus on strengths: Use your strengths as your USP: be a trendsetter!                                        -  Mansi Hassan

HOW TO TALK BETTER?

v  Listen more than you talk. The trick to a good conversation lies in lending a patient ear.
v  When in group, don’t talk to just one person. Wait for your turn. The need to be heard loud kills conversations.
v  Think before you speak, but not to the extent that you decide to keep your opinions to yourself because you think you know best.
v  Understand silence. They are just as important to develop conversation skills. Silence helps you gather your thoughts and think and reflect better on any subject.

MEMO FROM NARA...

Scientists are an elite group of so-called intellectuals respected (?) or sometimes not respected by the society. They are not exposed to the common man very much as the politicians are. In fact, scientists help the society to live in comfort and thus they make us healthy and happy. They try to make things better for human beings. Therefore most of the common men respect them. Are they proving their worth for the respects they get from the people? May be, yes or may be not!

Scientists teach and carry on research. By teaching, they share knowledge of science to students of science. These students are examined at various levels and graded. Also the students are taught to do research to solve problems or to find out new products for the benefit of people. We all know how we depend on those new products such as medicines, electricity, computers and mobile phones with thousands of applications with them. There is no doubt that scientists serve the people day in and day out.

Science has no border. In today’s world, there is no restriction for using the scientific gadgets developed in one country in another country. No nation is refusing to accept science and scientific knowledge although a set of religious people (fanatics?) oppose some of the scientific theories and concepts. It is understandable because people believe in traditional beliefs followed over time.

Even some of the scientists are superstitious! They are supposed to find the truth and truth only by experimentation and proofs. But their mind and social set up do not allow them to be a thinking animal. Thinking deep sometimes leads to madness. But thinking in the right direction to correct peoples’ inabilities such as diseases is a great achievement the medical science has performed.

Everyone knows how difficult it is to diagnose and understand the cause of a disease; unless someone (a doctor) who is an expert either in human anatomy or physiology or genetics come forward to help the suffering lot of the human population. Every day the number of road accidents in every city of the world is innumerable and beyond our imagination. The victims of these accidents are treated with care and medical knowledge by the medical experts. They are successful in some cases and fail in others. So science can help human beings only to a certain extent, beyond which it is beyond science and scientists.

The improvement in science and scientific research by converging all available knowledge is constantly going on all over the world for which every nation is contributing lot of money. Even the private organizations are also taking the responsibility of training people in various fields of science. Basic sciences like Physics, Chemistry and Biology are developing at a faster rate today and contribute a lot for applied science. The future of mankind is determined by scientific knowledge and its utilization to provide what the next generation wants. The ‘wants’ and ‘needs’ of man and women are not going to decrease. They are increasing and will be increasing in future too. To meet such situations only scientists can help. Of course, the technologists make the scientific results into services and products in order to popularize across the nations of the world. People are more interested in the applied aspects of science, not on the fundamentals of science which is the domain of scientists. Making science popular among people is to be tried through various media will  bring it close to common men and women. In fact, science is fascinating and fantastic for all of us!

UPS AND DOWNS

"You are up and you are happy.
You are down and you are sad.
All ups and downs help you to find a balance in your being.
This is what life is all about.
Once balanced, no more ups and downs,
but bliss and joy and silence and gratitude."
Tishan

FRIENDSHIP

There are seven principles of strong friendships. If you have a true friend you really have something it will give your life a profound strength and love and meaningfulness and contentment that you just can’t get from any other source.

To create a powerful bond with someone:

1. Work together for a purpose.

2. Believe in your friend.

3. Be loyal.

4. Fulfil their trust.

5. Speak the truth.

6. Happily make sacrifices for your friend.

7. Cultivate very few friends, or only one.

SELFISH PERSON

1 A selfish person is excessively friendly and will go out of their way to be nice to you, though only at the beginning of the relationship.

2 A selfish friend or partner always asks for favours, big or small.

3 They always squirm out of helping you when you need their help.

4 You can sense a selfish person’s fakeness when they talk to others. They try to appear very friendly and sweet to everyone, even if you know that they hate the person.

5 They use others all the time. And they share a laugh with you and tell you how they used someone else to get something done.

6 Selfish people are people pleasers. But once you get to know them well, they start to show their lazy and aloof side.

7 If you meet someone who’s always eager to please you with compliments or fake smiles, stay away from them. A truthful person may seem harsh, but they say things the way they see it. Excessively friendly people almost always have ulterior motives that are selfish.

8 A selfish friend or lover never commits to anything unless they can get some benefit or favour out of it. They would never do anything selflessly for your benefit.

9 A selfish person always has a carefree attitude and takes nothing seriously.

10 Selfish people are liars and manipulators. They never want to apologize because they think you’re beneath them. Instead, they resort to lies.

JUST TO LAUGH...

Two boys were arguing when the teacher entered the room. The teacher says: “What are you arguing?” One boy answers, “We found a Rs.10/- note and decided to give it to whoever tells the biggest lie.” “You should be ashamed of yourself” said the teacher, “When I was your age, I didn’t even know what a lie was.” The boys gave the Rs.10/- note to the teacher.

The statistics on sanity is that out of every four persons are suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends… if they’re okay, then it’s you.

INCREASE YOUR CONFIDENCE

Focus more on other people. When you lack confidence, you tend to obsess with thoughts about yourself. That can turn people off leading to their rejection of you, which further erodes your level of confidence. Instead, think about the other person or people you're around. If you're thinking positively about them, you'll feel less self-conscious and will be able to interact more positively with them - which is a win-win situation all round.

Think in terms of gratitude. When you think about what you have to be grateful for, it puts you in a more positive frame of mind. Focusing on your past successes, your loved ones, your talents and strengths, and all the other good things in your life, raises your energy level and leads to much greater confidence than when you dwell on the negative.

Volunteer. Whenever you volunteer to help someone in need, whether it's someone you know who's going through a tough time or a complete stranger, it makes you feel better about yourself. When you know you're doing something to contribute to the wellbeing of others, your confidence is given a boost.

Give yourself a break. Most people are much happier and certainly more confident when they lighten up on themselves. Really, who said you had to be perfect? If you develop a sense of humour about yourself, you won't take yourself so seriously. When you're more relaxed and less critical of yourself, you tend to do better in all situations.
