MODERATION IS THE KEY
TO
PEACEFUL LIFE

MEMO FROM NARA

Sports and music unite millions of us across our great nation – India. They brought us together. India is a vast country with many language speaking States and people following a number of religions, variety of cultures such as food, dresses, music, dance, caste, colour and what not! They have added fragrance to Indian culture. Such diversity brought unity among us. Every State has special festivals, large number of temples, churches, mosques and many other religious places. For anyone who comes to India from any other country, India looks as a paradise. Such variety in a single country (India), cannot be seen anywhere else. But we Indians fail to look at our own beautiful culture, people and places.

From Himalaya to Kanyakumari we find beautiful ancient architectural monuments. Taj Mahal, Puri, Charminar, Mysuru Palace, Thanjavur Big Temple, Guruvayur temple in Kerala, and many more places attract the attention of Indians nowadays. Appreciating one’s own culture and learn about it is necessary to understand the historic achievements of our ancestors.

Today everything is modern and technology has transformed our way of life and life-style. The country has seen skyscrapers in the form of apartments to provide shelter to millions of Indians. These were not there some years ago. The apartment culture has crept into India of late. With all these developments, pollution, life style diseases, isolated life and mental disorders have affected the Indian population to a great extent.

A free country indeed! Freedom for everyone! So governance becomes very difficult. There are lots of laws to control the unwanted activities of people. But still we do find all sorts of illegal activities happening all over India. We, the people of India tolerate and move on. Tolerance has become the way of life today. In fact, there is no place for intolerance.

WHEN YOU LEARN TO ACCEPT INSTEAD OF EXPECT,
YOU’LL HAVE FEW DISAPPOINTMENTS

RULES OF WRITING

1.       Write.

2.       Put one word after another. Find the right word, put it down.

3.       Finish what you’re writing. Whatever you have to do to finish it, finish it.

4.       Put it aside. Read it pretending you’ve never read it before. Show it to friends whose opinion you respect and who like the kind of thing that this is.

5.       Remember: when people tell you something is wrong or doesn’t work for them, they are almost always right. When they tell you exactly what they think is wrong and how to fix it, they are almost always wrong.

6.       Fix it. Remember that, sooner or later, before it ever reaches perfections, you’ll have to let it go and move on and start to write the next thing. Perfection is like chasing the horizon. Keep moving.

7.       Laugh at your won jokes.

The main rule of writing is that if you do it with enough assurance and confidence, you’re allowed to do whatever you like (that may be a rule for life as well as for writing.) So write your story as it needs to be written. Write it honestly and tell it as best you can.

TO BEAT LONELINESS

1. First, don’t isolate yourself – When you’re feeling lonely it is hard to go out and be with others who seem to be OK, and don’t really notice how lonely you feel. But putting up a wall and withdrawing from your friends will only intensify that sense of loneliness, and will further undermine your self-esteem.

2. Second, keep yourself busy – Do things that you normally enjoy with others. For example, listening to a band or maybe going to watch a game … or you could always try something that’s new, but interests you! That would allow you to connect in a non-threatening way … as it takes the focus off talking, and off you.

3. Third, be kind to yourself - It’s likely that you regularly beat yourself up, criticize yourself and are unrealistic in the kinds of expectations that you have for yourself. So what, if it goes wrong? You can always try again – just learn what you can from the experience. And notice your successes and the times when it goes well. It’s likely that this happens a lot more than you think!

4. Fourth, recognize that we ALL battle loneliness at times - You’re not some kind of freak – it’s actually quite normal. It is something we’ve all known and understand.

5. Fifth, talk to someone you like and trust – It can really help to talk about your feelings with a family member, a friend or counsellor. It relieves some of the painful sense of isolation – and help to get your life back in perspective again.

JUST TO LAUGH

Wife: In my dream, I saw you in a jewellery store and you bought me a diamond ring.

Husband: I had the same dream and I saw your dad paying the bill.

Teacher: Daniel, if you had a dollar in your hand and you asked your dad for another dollar, how many dollars would you have in your hand?

Daniel: A dollar.

Teacher: Daniel apparently you don’t know math...

Daniel: Apparently you don’t know my dad.

A little boy went up to his father and asked, ‘Dad, where did my intelligence come from?

The father replied: ‘Well, son, you must have got it from your mother because I still have mine.

NEVER BE A SLAVE OF GREED

MEMO FROM NARA

Everyone knows that Birth is the beginning of Life and Death is the end of it. In between the Birth and Death we live happy and healthy or unhappy and unhealthy Life. Some are lucky to live full life of 100 years, and others end their life at different intervals. So the end of Life is Death. No one knows for sure when one dies – what year, month, week, day or hour? Death occurs at anytime, anywhere, and in any form. If it happens, it happens. No one can prevent or postpone it. Therefore it is better not to think too much of it. However we all want to live as long as possible at any cost. Thus life appears to be very important and precious for all of us. We like to live and we like to see our family and our friends and friends’ family to live for a long time in comfort. For that we greet them every birthday and New Year for a long prosperous and healthy Life.

There are people who want to exploit this desire of living long by suggesting some unreasonable and unscientific ideas. Since people want to live – nothing but living – fall prey to those ideas and make fool of themselves. The ideas may be religious, mystic, spiritual or simple advices. People, who like to live long, develop a belief on these stupid ideas and try to follow blindly. Even the educated intelligentsia are trying to follow such ideas to live and not to die. In fact, we all know for sure, Death is the end of Life. When we breathe, we live, once we stop breathing we die. That is the law of nature. It is as simple as that!

Trying to avoid Death is human and animal instinct. All living organisms want to live, not to die. So they try to protect themselves against all adversaries. Safety and security to life are essential for all. Hence, human beings individually and also collectively try to make arrangements for living safely. In spite of all safety measures we do fall prey to Death and the precious Life ends. It is an everyday happening.

In fact, civilians as well as the security forces are living in risk every day. Accidents occur everywhere in spite of all our efforts to satisfy Gods by prayer and other means. The question is whether one can avoid such unavoidable accidents? I don’t think so. All of us know very well that thousands die every day by accidents, by natural disasters, by due to hatred and illness. Therefore live a Life with care and precautions as much as possible by not thinking in advance what is going to happen the next hour. Either things may go on smoothly or it may enter a hard court. So let us learn to live in this world without fear of Death. Free from fear gives us a long Life!
