LIFE

There are two fundamental approaches that we adopt in life - we may be thinking about things or we may be taking action. We can do these in a masterful way, serene and calm; or we may find difficulties get stressed and worry ourselves - in this case we have a life challenge. Well done personal development involves changing from living for tomorrow to living today. By learning to change our way of being, while facing challenges in life, and gradually developing the knowledge and skills we need, we move from stress and worry to serenity and calmness.

TO QUOTE...

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. – Leo Buscaglia

Ours is the age of substitutes: instead of language, we have jargon; instead of principles, slogans; and instead of genuine ideas, Bright ideas. – Eric Bentley

The first duty in life is to be as artificial as possible. What the second duty is no one has yet discovered. – Oscar Wilde.

LIFE WITH MEANING

When we live life with meaning, reachable goals and expectations, moment by moment, in the present, with our loved ones, accepting whatever comes in our way with hope, and with understanding and calmness – we can say: We live life in harmony with ourselves.

Developing a harmonious life requires effort from our side, the right attitude, and positive self-esteem. If we don’t have these things, we need first to change whatever stands in our way.

We cannot have a solid and harmonious life without inner peace, a positive outlook, a good social life, and positive feelings about life itself. People who can say they live life in harmony are emotionally rich people.

In most cases, life harmony does not depend on material possessions; each and every person deserves a harmonious life in accordance with their life styles

TO LEAD A PEACEFUL LIFE

Life essentially consists of certain ways and means within our control and certain happenings and circumstances beyond our control. By acting on those within our control we can strive for leading a peaceful life. A spiritual and philosophical mindset would add fillip to our efforts.

Here are some steps to lead a peaceful life:

Do not compare yourself with others: Your life is your own. Your likes and dislikes, tastes, expectations and standards are your own. Your neighbor or your colleague need not be a bench mark for you to compare yourself or compete with. Their level of education, financial status, social status or spending pattern need not be yours. If at all you have to compare, compare yourself with those who are less privileged than you; those whose lives are more peaceful and less complicated than yours.

Do not aspire to make other’s dream your reality: Your father’s unfulfilled dream of becoming a doctor need not be your dream. Your mother’s dream of becoming a successful dancer need not be yours – unless and until, you, on your own uninfluenced self-judgment think the same way.

Have a clear cut self judgment about your true capabilities, strengths and limitations: You might possess excellent Cricket playing skills within your local league. But it need not mean you are competent enough to play for the national team. Compare yourself with better players and make a sincere judgment: ‘Do I really play or am I capable of playing to that level? Do I have the physical, psychological and financial resources to make myself fit enough to come up to that level? Above all, is such a yearning worth the effort?’Sheer positive thinking alone will not do wonders. In the scheme of nature, all are not endowed with same set of skills and resources. If you are capable of judging yourself correctly, you will be endowed with the peace of mind – by not pursuing on something beyond your reach.

Live within your means: This is a time-tested age-old wisdom which is unfortunately forgotten in today’s Credit Card culture. What you buy using Credit Card should be payable IN FULL by you when the bill arrives from the Credit Card firm. If you get lured by the “Minimum Amount due Now”, it paves the way for accumulation of debt and consequently loss of peace sooner or later. If the object of desire can be purchased by you only through Installment by utilizing the “Minimum Pay out Money”, DO NOT SUCCUMB to the temptation of purchase. By bringing in this self-control, you may lose short-term pleasures, but you will enjoy long term peace.

HISTORY OF LIFE ON EARTH

The history of life on Earth began about 3.8 billion years ago, during the Achaean era, initially with single-celled prokaryotic cells, such as bacteria. Multi-cellular life evolved over a billion years later and it's only in the last 570 million years that the kind of life forms we are familiar with began to evolve, starting with arthropods, followed by fish 530 million years ago (Ma), land plants 475Ma and forests 385Ma. Mammals didn't evolve until 200Ma and our own species, Homo sapiens, only 200,000 years ago. So humans have been around for a mere 0.004% of the Earth's history.

PRIYANKA CHOPRA SAYS:

We don’t know what life has in store for us in the next minute, hour, day, week, month or year.
This is why it is so important to live for the moment and also live it to the fullest. Life can’t wait.
