MEMO FROM NARA...

Talking is a tool to communicate our needs and feelings with others. It’s a great boon for humans. Some talk less and others talk more but unfortunately the dumb person can not talk. There are always certain codes for talking. What to talk? What not to talk? – are questions need consideration. Moreover, we have to keep in mind the person we talk to. We can not talk certain things to certain persons. Hence talking requires a real control. There are fast talkers and slow talkers. While they talk, they do not listen to them. Only others listen and judge. Some talk to people who do not show an interest in hearing them. More often people repeat the same subject in so many sentences. It becomes painful for the listener. Talking loud to others even in a telephone is a habit of some people. People like to hear someone who talks soft with humor and emotion. When we are in anger, we talk ferociously. Verbal fighting is a common sight we see in our day-to-day life. No one thinks before talking. It is very essential to know how to choose the words before delivering. Once a wrong word is uttered, it can not be taken back. We have to say ‘sorry’ only as the Westerners who think that this particular word is the medicine for the mistakes committed. Talking to elders requires respect and talking to equals requires no formality. Molding the talk depending on the situation is an art. No one teaches us about talking. We have to learn from other humans by carefully listening and observing them. We can not talk as we like in a civilized world. Our education has to modulate our habit of talking so that we can establish good relationship with our fellow human beings.
