LIFE CAN BE VIEWED AS A CONSTANT SERIES OF DECISIONS

JOURNALISTS AND JOURNALISM

It was on 3 October 2021 the Nobel Prize Committee announced the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2021. The prize was awarded to two journalists – Maria Ressa of the Philippines and Dmitry Muratov of Russia. After 1935, journalism is recognized by the Nobel Prize Committee for the Peace Prize. It is appreciated by all the journalists of the world also all those who love peace. In fact, journalism can also work for bringing peace to our world. Who will not like peace? It is difficult to bring peace, but one can fight for peace by speaking and writing. There are millions of journalists who work towards this goal.

Journalism is a subject taught in universities and colleges. Many students prefer to join the course and become professional journalists. Nowadays journalism is a lucrative profession. Both men and women get interested in journalism and try to excel in their jobs. We do see young boys and girls who go to remote places, flooded areas, war happening places, volcano affected mountains and many other dangerous places to collect true information and report to the various media to broadcast. Such information helps the common people and the general public to take proper precautions to protect themselves. They help society by providing the day to day information.

Another way the journalists help society is to find out the wrongdoings of officials appointed by the government. Journalists are free to enquire and collect the information to make it public so that the government can take appropriate actions. Journalism is a sort of watchdog for democracy. Politicians are interviewed and questioned by journalists and they are answerable to the journalists. They are answerable to the journalists also in a way people’s representatives. So journalism is as important and necessary as the judicial system.

Journalists are very good at putting inconvenient questions to anyone who holds important positions in any organization including the government. Generally, journalists bring out the inner thoughts of VIPs so that the public will come to know about them. Journalists are good at gathering and analyzing news from various sources. They are also good at writing and communicating. There are many journalists who have turned out to be the best authors of books.

Journalism is also doing its mistakes. Some organizations bribe journalists to project their views and also work against justice. News gets popular all over the world within seconds. Therefore, it’s in the hands of journalists to make good news bad or bad news good. Journalists discuss every subject with a panel of people belonging to political party spokespersons as well as fellow journalists. They bring in a topic of the day for discussion. The media person introduces the subject and asks for the views from the members of the panel. Sometimes they shout r intervene when one of the members speaks. All these are watched by people like us. sometimes it looks like entertainment and at times it looks stupid.

Moreover, journalists are knowledgeable persons in their own fields like sports, politics, science, entertainment, travel etc. There are good investigative journalists who gather relevant data on an issue to discuss with different panels and important people. Journalists are generally known to all political leaders like Presidents, Prime Ministers, and Members of Parliament. Most of the common man’s problems are brought to the concerned leaders by journalists. So they are in a way friends of the common man. We have to appreciate the efforts put forward by each and every journalist to keep up the prestige of journalism. (nnnov2021)

DAILY HAPPINESS HABITS

The following is a list of features that promote happiness.

Health: When you maintain your physical and mental health and manage any chronic illnesses, you're maintaining your happiness. Chronic health issues can bring additional stress and can make it difficult for you to do some of the things that bring you happiness and stress relief.

Self-Esteem: Feeling good about who you are isn't just a touchy-feely thing we worry about for our kids; it's important for you to like the person you are right now. Low self-esteem seems to affect many areas of your life.

Goals, Values, and Spiritual Life: These are three different things, but they make up an important category that involves an internal, positive focus on something that's greater than who you are right now. These are all things that bring meaning to your life, and this is closely tied to your happiness.

Money: It's true that, beyond a certain point, more money doesn't bring significantly more happiness. It's also true, however, that too little money can bring stress and challenges to your happiness. Having enough money to live comfortably is important.

FIVE KEY MIND POWERS

Creative power

Creative power is of course the first step. This is where everything begins. It happens when you have an inspiring idea you decide to put in action. It is expressed in nature all the time via the force of fertility.

 Controlling power

Controlling power is what you express when you have a territory. You naturally express some form of control over your personality and being. You express control towards your belongings, personal space, agenda. It means that you are in charge. You are in command. Most abuses of power are related with overuse of controlling power. It happens in families, in business and in society in general.

 • Preserving or protective power

Imagine you have property with children playing on that property. What you want is for them to feel free while still being protected. Preserving means, opening the space, setting free while still offering protection. The love of a mother for a child, or the facilitation role you can have in business are two classical expressions of protective power.

 • Conquering power

This power expresses the drive to expand your territory. You express this power when you market or product or when you get a new diploma. You express it as well in competitive environments like sports. It usually means that you reach out beyond the limits of your existing territory.

 Transformative and renewing

This power is a clearing one. It is expressed in the season's cycle. It is expressed in any form of change or shift. Used in a more negative light, it is called destructive power. It is death and rebirth at the same time. It can be seen and felt as a shower of positive renewing forces. It's this power that you use when you decide to let go or move on.

TO QUOTE

Imagination is more important than knowledge – A. Einstein

It takes a whole life to learn how to live. – Seneca

When you arise in the morning, think of what a privilege it is to be alive, to think, to enjoy and to love. – Marcus Aurelius

JUST TO LAUGH

Mr Wilson was the chairman of the United Way, which had never received a donation from the most successful lawyer in town. He called on the attorney in an attempt to persuade him to mend his ways. "Our research shows that you made a profit of over $600,000 last year, and yet you have not given a dime to the community charities! What do you have to say for yourself?"

The lawyer replied, "Did your research also show that my mother is dying after a long illness, and has medical bills that are several times her annual income? Do you know about my brother, the disabled veteran, who is blind and in a wheelchair? Do you know about my sister, whose husband died in a traffic accident, leaving her penniless with three children?"

Sheepishly, the charity solicitor admitted that he had no knowledge of any of this.

"Well, since I don't give any money to them, why should I give any to you?"
