MAKING MISTAKES

Mistake is otherwise known as blunder, error, lapse, and slip. Something that is not correct is called mistake. Blunder is a big mistake. Errors like spelling errors, grammatical errors are made in writing an article or story or letter. Sometimes we leave something by forgetting, that is a lapse. There will be slip of the tongue while speaking. We may say unpopular words while conversing with others. That is a slip. All these mistakes can be corrected. In fact, mistakes are not like by anyone. However, some say that mistakes are not only opportunities to grow, but are at times absolutely necessary for our development as critical thinkers.

Who is not making mistakes? All human beings make mistakes knowingly or unknowingly. Some of those mistakes are serious in nature whereas some are not so serious. All age groups in human irrespective of gender commit mistakes. In other words, to learn, we have to make mistakes it appears. If we do not make mistakes, we cannot learn new things.

If you remember your school days in every examination, we have done mistakes by wrongly answering questions. The questions are asked in such a complicated way for us to make mistakes. Such mistakes bring down our marks. When we get our corrected answer sheets, we come to know where we have gone wrong. Once we understand that we will not make such mistakes in future. It is quite obvious. Such mistakes made in answering questions are not intentional but ignorance.

In life we make all kinds of mistakes. Sometimes we choose a job not suitable to continue. Similarly we may choose a spouse not suitable. People say that it is due to one’s fate. If we are careful and spend some time to think before choosing such mistakes would have been avoided. So intelligence and wisdom play an important role in preventing to make mistakes.

There are laws and regulations everyone is expected to follow. One has to drive a car or vehicle on the left side of the road in India. If you drive by the right side of the road, you commit a mistake and also an accident. Therefore one should follow the sign board indicating “keep left”. Very often the traffic police instruct and insist us to wear the seat belt and helmet while driving.

Very often the traffic police instruct and insist us to wear the seat belt and helmet while driving. Similarly, mobile phone usage while driving is a grave mistake. But we do find a good number of people do not follow those instructions and make mistakes that lead to accidents even to the extent of loss of lives.

So making mistakes has serious consequences. Punishments are given to those who make mistakes. Small punishments like paying penalty can make the people not to repeat such mistakes. If the mistakes are serious, then the punishments are severe. Millions of cases are pending in the courts – magistrate, high and supreme – are the examples that people are going on making mistakes.

It is worthwhile to list out the various mistakes we commit everyday and think over. A good exercise I followed for some time in my life. There are all kinds of mistakes. That is life. Making mistakes is life. Isn’t it? However, one has to be careful in not making mistakes; that good for oneself. Also try to learn from the committed mistakes. Eleanor Roosevelt said learn from the mistakes of others. - NARA
