THE FUNDAMENTALS OF MUSIC

The theories behind a musical instrument can be explained by the phenomenon of standing waves. In a pipe, air molecules oscillate when blown. This results in stationary pattern of maximum and minimum amplitude, called “standing waves”. It’s explained by the idea of acoustic impedance and how waves reflect. The frequency of the sound produced can be determined by the different pipe lengths, and harmony in music can be explained by the relationship between the repeating wave patterns from different musical notes.
